“There’s no substitute for blood. When a patient receives blood, it was given in advance by a generous donor.”
–American Red Cross
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and as the pandemic ranges on, our country is facing another blood shortage. Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer.
I’ve been able to safely continue donating blood during COVID at the New York Blood Center and in my personal experience, the NYBC team has taken proper precautions to keep everyone safe during donation.
I encourage you to research blood donation options in your local community and invite a friend or loved one to join and donate with you. Your decision to help now can save a life and will save more if you help by spreading the word.
Learn more about how blood donations help patients here and read about common concerns, safety and eligibility requirements here. It’s understandable that you might be reluctant or scared but I promise it’s worth considering.
I’ve donated blood several times so if you have any questions for me or need some emotional support, reach out, I’m always happy to help!
